What is the goal of money for you?

My FB wall is recently flooded with posts of people going crazy over iPhone6. I think there's nothing wrong wanting things if you can really afford it. By saying so, what I mean is that you don't have to go through debt just to have it or gamble your savings until you are left with none just to have it. If you have savings and emergency funds and still have extra money go grab it. But don't save every penny you have just to stay with the fad. In my case even if I can afford it, I will still not buy one. Haha!
Being married in my early 20s allowed me to have a greater perspective of the use of money. My husband and I watched an episode of On the Money where Suze Orman, a financial guru, was the guest. She mentioned that the goal of money is not only to buy things. The goal of money is for us to stay safe and secure. She even mentioned to have an 8-months emergency funds just to be prepared if unforeseen circumstances happen. I am really blessed having a husband who has the right attitude when it comes to money. I think one advantage of being married early is becoming more responsible with money early too. We were able to plan early on investments, insurance and retirement funds.

I don't deny the fact that we buy gadgets too. But we only buy things we really need. We don't even have television at home because I'm not a TV person and neither is he. We bought a laptop lately because we needed it for work. We can't work at the same time just with one computer and a laptop which is not designed for heavy work(peace to our old lappies!). haha!  So we we decided to buy another laptop --- a heavy duty one that will withstand all the apps and multi tasking work we do. Lucky us that we were able to have our Macoy at a very reasonable price.  And we have the assurance that in months time we can already gain back what we spent.

So basically, we spend money on things that we need  especially FOOD or on things that can be used in income generating work. And we use money to make us feel safe and secure. In this world where almost everything is a must-have for majority, it really takes a lot of discipline to have control over money. I think if we really know things that we need compared to things we only want, it won't be hard to decide what to do with money.
